Making water great again for Sioux Falls

Clean drinking water is no small task.  At the Sioux Falls SD Water Purification Plant a staff of 35 work year round making sure that the greater metro area has plenty of clean water.  Each day they are purifying between 16 million and 45 million gallons of water, depending on the time of year.  It’s an elaborate process of pumping, filtering and testing that can remove more than 100 chemical contaminants (although they most that has ever been found was 20).

Since the plant runs 24/7, 365 days a year, it is necessary for staff to move from one building to the next in inclement weather.  Protecting staff on treks between the buildings is a glazed walkway built by Crystal Structures.  The primary walkway is about 50′ long with a 7′ projection.  It runs the side of one building then follows the path up a small flight of stairs and turns a corner to allow entry to the adjacent building.  While the walkway is designed to protect from the elements, it’s also a nice break from the building interior, a chance to get a bit of sunshine even on cold Winter days.
