Barrel shaped walkway is easy with poly glazing

Glenwood Resource Center
Polycarbonate glazing at Glenwood

The Glenwood Resource Center has a rich and interesting history.  Located in Glenwood IA, the facility was built in 1866 as a post Civil War orphanage and was the home of famous baseball player and evangelist, Billy Sunday. The facility evolved over time to become a part of  The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).   Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities.

Polycarbonate glazing for protective walkway.

Crystal Structures was pleased to provide an upgrade the facility in the form of a protective walkway.  The cover is a Bel Aire style curved skylight with bronze polycarbonate glazing on top of brick siding which matches the resource center.  A built in accessory track was included to secure lighting that would be used to light the walkway at night.   The entire ramp is 143′ long stretching across the front of the building and can be seen from above with Google Earth.

By using polycarbonate glazing, the walkway has the benefit of natural light during the day.  The poly is also weather resistant and the color effect will last a long time.  This barrel shaped walkway would not be possible with glass, the polycarbonate glazing easily conforms to the shape outlined in the specs.  Learn more about our translucent polycarbonate systems here.

Architect: HR Green Company
General Contractor: Overland Constructors

The ramp was constructed under CSI Code 10 73 26
