It's Elementary!

Cumberland Academy
Translucent polycarbonate

Translucent polycarbonate lights the halls at CumberlandCumberland Academy was established in 1996 by Dr and Mrs James Cotton.  They envisioned a school that would offer small classes for better education with passionate educators.  Within 2 years, the school became the premier charter school in Tyler TX.

Over the years the concept was well accepted and the student base continued to grow.  In 2010, Cumberland moved to 1340 Shiloh Road.  By 2014 the school was educating children up to the 8th grade.  With all the growth comes a need for more learning spaces, and the new addition was set into action last year.

Translucent polycarbonate panels for daylighting.

Crystal Structures assisted with this project by adding 11 translucent polycarbonate wall panels (spanning up to 40′ in some areas) on the interior and exterior of the school.  Being translucent, these add just the right amount of diffused natural light without the glare of full view glass.  The natural light also helps cut the cost of illuminating the building.  Additionally, many studies have shown that natural light enhances the learning experience.  Learn more about our translucent polycarbonate systems here.

Translucent polycarbonate panels are under CSI code 08 84 00
